The Fighter

We have all been watching Marky Mark Wahlberg drop his pants and show us his glorious chest for quite sometime, and this movie reminded me what made him so damn hot in the first place. The movie was very good, Christian Bale played the druggie brother perfectly. When he wasn’t making want to throw up because he looked completely emaciated. For me the stand out performance in this movie has to go to Amy Adams though. I have never seen her play such a rough role and I wasn’t expecting her portrayal to be all that good. But she really flexed those acting muscles in this one. And while I don’t in general like boxing, the Director David Russell really made me jump a few times, just listening to the sound of a glove hitting flesh. A little too real for me in parts with actual boxing, but overall a good movie. Though yet another movie set in Boston, is this number two for the year? I think so. So if you like watching boxing this is for you, and if you have a girlfriend she can just stare at Marky Mark. But in order to not be scared by the look of the actual people they are portraying leave before the credits start. I had a good feeling about the Pride’s of Lowell and then I saw them in real life, just a little bit too real or Friday night. But yes go see it, it is worth the price of a ticket stub

Black Swan

Bravo! Is the word that first comes to mind. This was truly a good movie, very intense though, and it certainly doesn't leave you with any warm and fuzzy feelings afterward. Natalie Portman has come a very long way from Where the Heart Is. But she did it so well. While the very thing women, make everyone bundled up in winter wear wish that they had the wherewithal to squeeze into a tutu, the visual brilliance of this movie makes it even better to watch. Talk about suffering for a career in the background but portraying grace while on stage. In any case I don’t care if you rent this in the movie theater or watch it at home either way. This movie is good!

Knight and Day

HELLO!!!! Movie studios make a note....Tom Cruise has officially been voted off the island! Stop putting him in movies where he is the lead, I will not go see them he is a crazy Scientology nut from which there is no return. This movie was doomed to fail based on the last few things I mentioned. Cameron Diaz is the same as she always is, please I can't pretend that she doesn't play the exact same role in every movie. In theory this movie could have worked without douch-Cruise and maybe Cameron could have made it work with someone else, but the execution was just totally lacking. With all the moments of just plain old boredom, it well.....it just sucked. Now here is my disclaimer, I am only about an hour into the movie, and while I only anticipate it getting shittier from here I will keep watching. But seriously based on the WASTED hour of my viewing pleasure, don't make the same mistake. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES RENT OR WATCH THIS MOVIE!!!

Frankie and Alice

Before tonight, Halle Berry was just another thing to look at on a huge screen, but after seeing her play a woman with multiple personalities I feel like she may have actually stretched her role. The movie was quite simply well done, and should be seen by all. The movie was put together in such a way that kept me guessing, what happened. And then to see the conclusion at the end left me wondering. I would go see more movies like this, you know completely original and not totally formulaic. Movies like this stretch the viewers compassion, and allow them to think about things in a different light rather than just jumping to snap conclusions about people who suffer from multiple personalities. I hope that Halle does more movies like this, both in front of and behind the camera's. While I know it is not possible to just do things like this, I found it more refreshing than anything else that I have seen a while. So this is a must see in the theater. And trust me I am not biased where she is concerned I would have been much happier writing a review telling her to go back to her easy roles because this was too much.

Love and Other Drugs

Well this will be the movie that does it. Before seeing this movie I would have said that Jake Gylenhall was not someone I wanted to see lead in a romantic comedy. Now I would have to say that this movie is the launching of Jake Gylenhall into the hearts of women who go see movies every where. Brad Pitt and George Clooney are getting a little soggy around the edges and this is the guy that will take their place in the huge RomCom industry. Ann Hathaway was great, but I have come to expect that from her, but Jake stole the show. He was the guy that we are all hoping that we meet. You know that line, no one makes a better husband than a reformed rake! And he played it very well. The story line while formulaic, was very good and curvy enough to almost through me off the scent. I would say go see this movie, it will be a nice mini-cation.

Morning Glory

Harrison Ford makes this movie! I have never seen him in such a grumpy yet funny role. But he totally stole the show. Rachel McAdams was good, but it could have been Katherine Heigl and I wouldn't have known the difference. Diane Keaton still has it, I feel as though she has only gotten better. As for fair Patrick Wilson, dude you can undress in front of me ANYTIME! In fact I wouldn't mind if you could do a few more topless scenes. In any case this movie gives you a tickle that lasts over an hour. Long story short, you can go see it or you can wait for DVD either way, it will be good when and if you get to it.
